At Boston College, we support your student’s health and well-being through a holistic, Jesuit approach to care. Students have access to 24/7 medical services, mental health counseling, wellness resources, and recreation facilities that promote balance and connection. We also offer outreach and support for personal or academic challenges, and maintain a fully accredited campus police department to help ensure student safety.
The Essentials
Boston College’s University Counseling Services, part of the Murray Center for Student Wellness, offers personal counseling and support to help students navigate college life and care for their mental health. Full-time students have access to a full range of services; part-time and non-degree students may receive consultation and referrals as needed. Please note that the office does not provide evaluations or letters for Emotional Support Animals. Students can make an appointment by visiting the office or calling 617-552-3310. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., excluding holidays.
Taking care of physical, mental, and social health is key to a successful college experience. At Boston College, the Murray Center for Student Wellness provides trained wellness coaches, programs, and events to help students reflect on their well-being, develop healthy habits, and make informed choices that support a balanced lifestyle throughout college and beyond. The center also offers a wide range of alcohol and drug education programs, available to both students seeking support and those required to participate as part of a conduct outcome.
The Office of the Dean of Students (DOS) is committed to helping every student feel welcome and fully included in the Boston College experience. DOS coordinates accommodations for students with medical, physical, psychiatric, or temporary disabilities and work to promote accessibility across campus. The student outreach and support team offers direct support to students facing challenges, consults with those concerned about a student’s well-being, and partners with offices across campus to ensure coordinated care and assistance.
The Margot Connell Recreation Center offers a wide range of facilities, including a fitness center, rock climbing wall, jogging track, aquatics center, basketball and tennis courts, and rooms for spin, yoga, and other fitness classes. Campus Recreation supports the health and well-being of the Boston College community by promoting active lifestyles through inclusive programs, all in the spirit of our Jesuit commitment to caring for the whole person.

Emergency Response
Boston College maintains a strong 24/7 on-call system to respond to student emergencies. This coordinated network comprises staff from Residential Life, Counseling Services, Campus Ministry, the Boston College Police Department, and the Dean of Students. In an emergency, these teams work together to assess the situation and guide students through the next steps, ensuring timely support and care.Â
Eagle Escort
Eagle Escort is a safety-focused transportation service available to all members of the Boston College community. While not a replacement for public transit, Èȵ㱬ÁÏÈë¿Ú shuttles, Uber, or taxis, Eagle Escort offers support in specific situations. The service provides transportation within a 2.5-mile radius of the Chestnut Hill campus, assists students with disabilities in getting to class, and serves as a medical shuttle to and from University Health Services and St. Elizabeth’s Hospital.
FAQ
For non-emergency concerns, Boston College encourages parents and community members to share information if they are worried about a student’s well-being by submitting a report online. The Office of the Dean of Students reviews Student of Concern reports during regular business hours and works closely with campus partners to connect students with appropriate support. You can also contact the Office of the Dean of Students directly at 617-552-3470 to speak with a member of the Student Outreach and Support team. If there is an emergency, please call the Boston College Police Department at 617-552-4444 or dial 911.
Each Èȵ㱬ÁÏÈë¿ÚPD officer is also sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff within Norfolk, Suffolk, and Middlesex Counties, which border our campuses. While you will not typically see the Èȵ㱬ÁÏÈë¿ÚPD patrolling city streets, it does enable them to legally respond beyond the strict confines of the campus, as needed. Boston College also works collaboratively with the Boston Police Department in sharing critical safety information.
Boston College also has an Off-Campus Student Community Liaison that responds to concerns and complaints in the community. The liaison observes the off-campus community on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights as well as holidays and other high-activity dates, particularly in areas where large numbers of off-campus students reside.
Though not a law enforcement official, the liaison is a university official who responds to disturbance calls and works closely with the Boston Police, Newton Police, and the Boston College Police Department (Èȵ㱬ÁÏÈë¿ÚPD) to maintain a safe, respectful neighborhood.
The Murray Center for Student Wellness embodies Boston College’s commitment to holistic student care in the Jesuit tradition of cura personalis, or care for the whole person. It also includes pastoral counseling, nutritional support, and coordinated care across campus. Working in close collaboration with the Dean of Students Office, the Murray Center ensures timely, comprehensive, and compassionate support for all students.
Students with physical, psychological, chronic or temporary medical conditions can register with the Office of the Dean of Students to request accommodations. These might include extended time on exams, accessible housing, note-taking support, or other adjustments. Students are required to submit documentation and meet with a staff member to discuss their needs. Services are designed to promote full participation in academic and campus life.
The Margot Connell Recreation Center is the hub of fitness and recreation at Boston College. Students have access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a fitness center, indoor track, swimming pool, basketball courts, and climbing wall.
